CPIT welcomes applications from students from non-English speaking backgrounds and has put in place English Language Requirements to help you make correct choices and to ensure you have a level of English appropriate to the content and purpose of your chosen course or programme.
The requirements apply to all full time and part time programmes.
The requirements are detailed in separate brochures available from each Faculty reception area and are stated in terms of IELTS (International English Language Testing System, TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), NZ Sixth Form Certificate and NZ University Bursary. Equivalent overseas English qualifications may also be recognised.
IELTS is always the preferred option as it gives the best indication of your likelihood of success in your chosen programme.

If your English is not of a sufficiently high level, or you still need extra practice, you may be asked to spend more time on your English before beginning your programme of study. ESOL classes are available at CPIT for new migrants, but early application for enrolment in these is essential. Contact the ESOL centre, 03-940-8603; 8.30am - 4pm Monday - Thursday, 10.00am - 3pm Friday.
