From storm's wake to art

03 Apr 2013

This piece of work is created by Philip Trusttum and will be a prize for the raffle at the next opening on 10 April.

We’re looking forward to hosting our first artist in residence next week when we will welcome sculptor Timothy Mark. Originally from the States but now living locally, Timothy will be spending the next couple of months working outdoors on a new sculptural work. Although he is best known for his works in stone, this time he has chosen the very romantic material of broken macrocarpa trees from the Botanical Gardens that were damaged in the 2011 snow storms.

This is a rare chance to see a working artist in action so you are welcome to swing by and see how it all happens. We especially hope to see school groups take advantage of this opportunity.

It’s been great to see good numbers of people coming through ArtBox. To enhance the experience we will be engaging in a bit of landscaping soon to build up the Madras St frontage so that it looks less like a building site and more like an accessible community space. However we are still very much under construction and expect the second of the four prefab buildings to be delivered in May. This building will form the main gallery space.

You may have checked out our recently published schedule of upcoming art shows. With exhibitions ranging from Rebecca Harris to Philip Trusttum to Mark Soltero there will be something for all tastes. Space has been in hot demand and there is now only one slot left to fill.

That’s me for this week, take care.
