Melanie Harris completed a Bachelor of Sustainability and Outdoor Education at CPIT (now Ara Institute of Canterbury) because she's always love the outdoors and being around people and helping others enjoy the outdoors too.
Ara's helped Melanie prepare her for her career by putting her in a learning environment where she got to help others by taking groups in a variety of different activities from first year of study to her final year.
One of Melanie's favourite highlights of her studies was the opportunity to teach first year students whitewater kayaking and seeing the improvement throughout the year.
Melanie enjoyed being a Student Ambassador most because she was able to meet students outside of her programme and having the opportunity to share her knowledge about Ara and her studies with others.
Melanie's tutor helped her get her current job at Horizons Unlimited in their Adventure Education team. As part of her role there, Melanie runs day programmes out on high and low ropes courses in the Groynes as well as taking high school camps.
