Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Mechanical) graduate Josh Lau has completed four qualifications ranging from Business to Computer Aided Design to his most recent in Engineering during his time at CPIT (now Ara Institute of Canterbury). He especially enjoyed learning to deal with real world problems and found the friendly lecturers were always happy to help.
"I'm a practical person and the hands-on environment suits my style of learning."
The highlights of Josh's studies were the field trips to various engineering companies in Christchurch. The field trips organised through numerous industry connections helped Josh gauge what sort of job he could expect once he graduated.
Since Josh first graduated with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering back in 2005 and a Diploma in Computer Aided Design in 2008. He began part time work at Motovated Design and Analysis Ltd while studying toward his Bachelor degree full time. Since then, he has continued his relationship with Ara. In 2012 Josh worked as an engineering lecturer in a number of courses in the first year New Zealand Diploma in Engineering.
"Being considered and even chosen to teach some engineering courses has been a huge privilege and great learning experience for me"
Josh's future plans include travelling and furthering his career abroad.
