Kwun Tong Hung (Tim) loves marketing. "Marketing, innovation and entrepreneurship are fundamental to the success of a business but they're also enjoyable and fun," he says.
Tim came from Hong Kong to Christchurch to study the Bachelor of Applied Management at CPIT (now Ara Institute of Canterbury).
"I chose to come here because I was seeking applied learning rather than just theory," he says. "The teaching style here is different to universities; I was able to interact with tutors and other students during class and that allowed me to understand more and to share my opinion. At a university I would only listen without any interaction, and that's boring."
As part of his degree, Tim spent time as an intern at a recruitment company, which he says helped identify what careers would best utilise his abilities.
Tim believes the skills and knowledge he acquired through the Bachelor of Applied Management have given him a competitive advantage in a globally competitive environment.
"I've learned how to problem solve and deal with new and varied situations without getting stressed. I also have greater confidence in my ability to make decisions without the need for approval from others. This degree has prepared me for a future of my choice and will open many doors for me."
